The Dell Fibre Disk RAID Controllers perform the RAID function for your Fibre Channel
system. The system may contain one or two Dell Fibre Disk RAID controllers. When
facing the rear of the system, RAID controller 0 is on the right side and RAID control-
ler 1 is on the left side. The DB 9 connectors on the Fibre Disk RAID Controller
connect to the host or switch. The high-speed serial data connectors (HSSDCs) on the
RAID controller connect to the daisy chain Fibre Channel loops for further drive expan-
sion. The RAID controller 0 daisy chain connects to Fibre Channel Loop A. The RAID
controller 1 daisy chain connects to Fibre Channel Loop B.

To troubleshoot the Dell Fibre Disk RAID Controller, perform the following steps:
1. Is one of the following events occurring?
Green controller ready indicator is not lit
Amber controller not ready indicator is lit.
Yes
. See the Dell OpenManage Array Manager User's Guide for the proper safe-
guards for protecting your data before proceeding any further, then perform the
following steps:
a. Verify that the Dell Fibre Disk RAID Controller has had enough time to boot.
The boot process can take several minutes. If this resolves the problem, end
troubleshooting.
b. Confirm that the Dell Fibre Disk RAID Controller is not inserted upside down
into the unit by verifying that the DB9 connector is located at the top of the
module. Remove and replace the module if necessary. If this resolves the
problem, end troubleshooting.
c. Replace the Dell Fibre Disk RAID Controller. If this resolves the problem, end
troubleshooting.
No.
Proceed to step 2.
2. Is the amber partner fail indicator light on?
Yes.
See the Dell OpenManage Array Manager User's Guide for the proper safe-
guards for protecting your data before proceeding any further, and then perform
the following steps:
a. Confirm that the Dell Fibre Disk RAID Controller in the other slot is not
inserted upside down into the unit by verifying that the DB9 connector is
located at the top of the module. Remove and replace the module if neces-
sary. If this resolves the problem, end troubleshooting.
b. Replace the Dell Fibre Disk RAID Controller in the other slot. If this resolves
the problem, end troubleshooting.
No.
Proceed to step 3.
