Network Connection Using Fiber-Optic Cable
Toconnectthemoduletothenetwork,refertoFigure 3‐4andperformthefollowingsteps:
1. Removeanyprotectivecoversfromthefiber‐opticportsandfromtheendsoftheconnectors.
2. InsertoneendoftheSCcableconnector,keysidedown,intotheSCportinterfaceconnector.
Ensurethat
theappropriatecableisusedfortheapplicationoftheSCportconnection.Refer
toAppendix Afortheappropriatefiber‐opticcabletobeusedintheinstallation.
Note: If the DFE-Diamond module is being installed in a network using Link Aggregation, there are
rules concerning the network cable and port configurations that must be followed for Link
Aggregation to operate properly. Before connecting the cables, refer to the Enterasys Matrix DFE-
Diamond/Platinum Series Configuration Guide for the configuration information. For details on how
to obtain manuals, refer to “Related Documents” on page xii.
Warning: The 10 Gigabit interface module uses Class 1 lasers. Do not use optical instruments to
view the laser output. The use of optical instruments to view laser output increases eye hazard.
When viewing the output optical port, power must be removed from the network adapter.

Note: To prevent contaminating the end of strands in the connectors or ports, leave the protective
covers in place when the connectors or ports are not in use.
Caution: Do not touch the ends of the fiber-optic strands, and do not let the ends come in contact
with dust, dirt, or other contaminants. Contamination of cable ends causes problems in data
transmissions. If the ends of the fiber-optic strands become contaminated, use a canned duster to
blow the surfaces clean. A cleaning swab saturated with optical-grade isopropyl alcohol may also
be used to clean the ends.
Precaución: No toque los extremos de los cables de fibra óptica y evite su contacto con el polvo,
