Removal and replacement procedures
Maintenance and Service Guide 4–41
System board
The system board spare part kit includes replacement thermal material.
Before removing the system board, follow these steps:
1. Shut down the computer.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet, and then
unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4. Remove the battery (see “Battery” on page 4-7).
5. Remove the following components:
a. Switch cover (see “Switch cover” on page 4-8)
b. Keyboard (see “Keyboard” on page 4-9)
c. Optical drive (see “Optical drive” on page 4-13)
d. Speakers (see “Speakers” on page 4-15)
e. Palm rest (see “Palm rest” on page 4-16)
f. Solid-state module (see “Solid-state module” on page 4-20)
g. Top cover (see “Top cover” on page 4-22)
h. Heat sink (see “Heat sink” on page 4-29)
i. Display assembly (see “Display assembly” on page 4-37)
When replacing the system board, be sure that the following additional components are removed from the defective
system board and installed on the replacement system board:
Memory modules (see “Memory module” on page 4-12)
WLAN module (see “WLAN module” on page 4-18)
Modem module (see “Modem module” on page 4-24)
RTC battery (see “RTC battery” on page 4-26)
Processor (see “Processor” on page 4-34)
Power connector cable (see “Power connector cable” on page 4-43)
