Supports L1/L2 write-back merged with PCI master post-write to minimize DRAM
utilization
Delay transaction from PCI master reading DRAM
Read caching for PCI master reading DRAM
Transaction timer for fair arbitration between PCI masters (granularity of two PCI
clocks)
Symmetric arbitration between Host/PCI bus for optimized system performance
Complete steerable PCI interrupts
PCI-2.2 compliant, 32 bit 3.3V PCI interface with 5V tolerant inputs
2.3.5 IDE Interface (Bus Master Capability and Synchronous DMA Mode)
Master mode enhanced IDE controller with dual channel DMA engine and interlaced dual
channel commands. Dedicated FIFO coupled with scatter and gather master mode
operation allows high performance transfers between PCI and IDE devices. In addition to
standard PIO and DMA mode operation. The VT82C686B also supports the UltraDMA-33,
UltraDMA-66, and UltraDMA-100 (ATA-100) standards. The IDE controller is SFF-8038I
v1.0 and Microsoft Windows-family compliant.
2.3.6 USB
Universal Serial Bus controller that is USB v1.1 and Universal HCI v1.1 compliant. The
VT82C686B includes the root hub with four function ports with integrated physical layer
transceivers. The USB controller allows hot plug and play and isochronous peripherals to
be inserted into the system with universal driver support. The controller also implements
legacy keyboard and mouse support so that legacy software can run transparently in a
non-USB-aware operating system environment.
2.3.7 VIA VT6202 PCI USB2.0 Controller
The VT6202 USB 2.0 UHCI and EHCI Host Controller for the PCI Bus provides higher
bandwidth (480 Mbps) and is backward compatible with USB 1.1. It implements Universal
Serial Bus Specification Revision 2.0 and is compliant with UHCI 1.1 and EHCI 0.95 with a
32-bit PCI host bus interface.
The VT6202 supports 4 downstream facing ports with 1.5 (low-speed), 12 (full-speed) and
480 (high-speed) Mbps transaction capability. The Root Hub is integrated with physical-
layer transceivers shared by UHCI (for full/low-speed) and EHCI (for highspeed)
Host Controllers. The VT6202 also supports PCI-Bus Power Management Interface
Specification 1.1 and has legacy support for all downstream facing ports.
The VT6202 is ready to provide a PCI 4-port USB2.0 peripheral-interface to satisfy the
needs of desktops, mobile systems, and other host platforms. Support for the VT6202 is
built into Microsoft Windows XP and Windows 2000.
