Connecting a network management station to the switch
Connect a network management station to the management port for
out-of-band management of the switch.
The management port on the CPU modules is a 10/100 Mb/s Ethernet port
implemented on an RJ-45 connector wired as an MDI connection. You
can use this port to connect the switch to a network management station
for out-of-band management of the switch using a Web browser or Device
Manager.
The port has its own IP address but does not switch traffic to other ports in
the chassis.
Prerequisites
To connect ports that will operate at 100 Mb/s, use only Category 5 UTP
cable. For 10 Mb/s connections, you can use Category 3, 4, or 5 copper
unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cable.
Procedure steps
Step Action
1
Insert the UTP cable into the RJ-45 receptacle connector on the
CPU module.
