The display is blank.
The battery is not inserted
properly.
Check that the positive and negative
terminals of the battery are placed
correctly ( P.9).
The remaining battery power
is low.
Replace or charge the battery (P.9,
P.11).
The power is OFF.
Turn the power ON (P.9).
Unable to operate the
voice recorder
The remaining battery power
is low.
Replace or charge the battery (P.9,
P.11).
The power is OFF.
Turn the power ON (P.9).
The voice recorder is in HOLD
mode.
Release HOLD mode ( P.19).
Unable to record
There is no remaining memory.
Erase unneeded files (P.46).
The maximum number of
recordable files has been reached.
Select another folder (P.23, P.24).
WS-823 model only
[Speaker] has been selected for
[Output] in the [FM Menu].
Select [Earphone] for [Output] (P.81).
Playback is inaudible.
The earphones are connected to
the EAR jack.
To output the playback through the built-
in speaker, disconnect the earphones.
[Off] has been selected for
[Speaker].
To output the playback through the
built-in speaker, select [On] for [Speaker]
(P.76).
The volume is set to [00].
Adjust the volume ( P.34).
The recording is too
quiet.
A low recording level has been
set.
Redo recording after setting the recording
level to [High] or [Middle] ( P.63).
The output level of the connected
external device may be too low.
Adjust the output level of the external
