I cannot receive documents.
I cannot receive documents
automatically.
The display shows the
following message, but faxes
are not received.
A blank sheet is ejected.
A white line or a dirty pattern
appears on your recording paper.
The printing quality is poor.

Fax – sending (cont.)
Problem
If your line has special telephone services such as call
waiting, the service may have been activated during fax
transmission. Connect the unit to a line that does not have
these services.
The extension telephone on the same line is off the hook.
Hang up the extension telephone and try again.
Try copying the document. If the copied image is clear, there
may be something wrong with the other party’s machine.
The glass or rollers are dirty. Clean them (p. 76).
Use the overseas transmission mode of feature #23 (p. 59).
Add two pauses at the end of the telephone number or dial
manually.
Cause & solution
The other party complains that
letters on their received
document are distorted or not
clear.

I cannot make an international
fax call.
Fax – receiving
Problem
The telephone line cord is connected to the EXT jack on
the unit. Connect to the LINE jack (p. 18).
The receive mode is set to TEL mode. Set to FAX ONLY
mode (p. 45) or TEL/FAX mode (p. 48, 49).
The time taken to answer the call is too long. Decrease the
number of rings of features #06 (p. 57), #30 (p. 60) and
#78 (p. 62).
The incoming call is not a fax. Change the receive mode to
TEL mode (p. 44).
The other party placed the document in their fax machine
the wrong way. Check with the other party.
The glass or rollers are dirty. Clean them (p. 76).
The other party sent a faint document. Ask them to send a
clearer copy of the document.
Some paper has instructions recommending which side to
print on. Try turning the paper over.
You may have used paper with a cotton and/or fiber content
that is over 20%, such as letterhead or resume paper.
The remaining toner is low. Replace the toner cartridge (p. 70).
We recommend you replace the drum unit every third time
you replace the toner cartridge
(p. 70)

life and quality, please print the printer test list (p. 78).
The toner save mode of feature #79 is on (p. 62).
