ThePicoE14canrunasastandaloneproductorbeconnectedtoahostusingtheCardBusconnector.
Bydefault,thePicoE14shipswithfirmwarethatisreadyforuseasaCardBusslavedevice,butitalso
supportsbusmastering.Thatsamefirmwarealsoprovidesthemeanstoswitchintostandlonemode.

CardBusisa32bitinterfacewithamaximumspeedof33MHz.ThePicoE14hardwareisdesignedto
supportstandardPCMCIAaswellasDMAmode.TheCardBusstandardspecifiesthatallCardBushosts
bebackwardcompatiblewithPCMCIA.
SinceCardBussystemscanonlybe3.3V,no
digitaltranslatingtransceiversarerequiredtoconnectwith
ahost.ThisallowsdirectconnectiontotheVirtex4FPGAforreducedpowerconsumption.Withthis
design,itiseasilypossibletoreversetheCardBusinterfaceandusethePicoE14asahostcontroller
forotherCardBusandPCMCIA
cards.
