1. Insert the configuration utility diskette into the diskette drive and restart the
server.
2. From a command-line prompt, type bmc_cfg and press Enter.
3. Follow the instructions on the screen.
Using the baseboard management controller firmware update
utility program
Use the baseboard management controller firmware update utility program to
download a baseboard management controller firmware update or a SDR/FRU
update. The firmware update utility program updates the baseboard management
controller firmware or SDR/FRU data only and does not affect any device drivers.
Important: To ensure proper server operation, be sure to update the server
baseboard management controller firmware before you update the BIOS code.
To download the program, complete the following steps.

1. Go to http://www.ibm.com/systems/support/.
2. Under Product support, click System x.
3. Under Popular links, click Software and device drivers.
4. Click IBM System x3250 M2 to display the matrix of downloadable files for the
server.
5. From the BMC software choice, click the link for the applicable package and
download the package.
To
update the firmware, run the executable program in the package. Follow the
instructions that come with the package.
Using the SMBridge management utility program
Use the SMBridge management utility program to remotely manage and configure a
network. The utility program provides the CLI (command-line interface) remote
management capabilities.
Use CLI mode to remotely perform power-management and system identification
control functions over a LAN interface from a command-line interface. Use CLI
mode also to remotely view the BMC system-event log.
Use the following commands in CLI mode:
v connect
Connect to the LAN. Type connect -ip ip_address -u username -p password.
v help
Display a complete list of supported commands.
v identify
Control the system-locator LED on the front of the server.
v power
View the current power status.
v power on | off
Turn the server on and off remotely.
