Pitney Bowes J640 Printer User Manual

To create a check digit scheme, make a copy of this page or
the check digit worksheet in Appendix E, "Format Design
Tools." Fill in your copy as you follow these steps.
1. Assign a number from 1 to 10 to identify this check digit
scheme. You will refer to this number later when you
apply Option 31 to a field. Write the number in box A2.
2. Write A in box A3 to send the check digit scheme to the
printer. (You may enter C for this parameter later to clear
the check digit scheme.)
3. Box A4 must contain R for the device, since this printer
stores the check digit scheme in RAM. This is the only
valid option for this printer.
4. Assign a number from 2 to 11 to use as a modulus. The
modulus is used to divide the sum of products or the sum
of digits. Write the number in box A5.
5. Determine the maximum number of characters the field
will contain. Write the number in box A6.
6. Determine an algorithm. The algorithm determines how
the check digit is calculated. For an example of how these
algorithms work, refer to "Sum of Products Calculation" or
"Sum of Digits Calculation" later in this chapter. Write D
for "sum of digits," or P for "sum of products" in box A7.
