Customizing Your VAIO Computer
Using Fingerprint Authentication with the TPM
With the TPM data encryption feature, using fingerprint authentication can strengthen computer security. For instructions on
how to use the TPM, see Using Trusted Platform Module (TPM) (page 116).
To use fingerprint authentication with the TPM, your computer needs to be equipped with both a fingerprint sensor and the
TPM. See the printed Specifications sheet to find whether your model is equipped with them.
!
If you use fingerprint authentication with the TPM, it may take longer for you to log onto your system or you need to enter the Personal Identification
Number (PIN) when logging onto Windows depending on the settings. In addition, if you change the settings for the TPM or the TPM fails, you may
not be able to use the fingerprint authentication functionality.
Note that using fingerprint authentication with the TPM has such drawbacks. Sony assumes no liabilities for any problems and damages arising out of
your use of the TPM and the maintenance and management of fingerprint authentication data that you carried out at your own risk.
Before enabling the TPM
To use fingerprint authentication along with the TPM, you need to install and initialize the TPM software and customize the
settings yourself first. For more information on how to install and initialize the software, see Configuring the TPM (page 121).
