Chapter 3: Printer Handling and Care
This chapter lists a number of precautions that you should observe while using
the printer. It also provides information on cleaning the receipt printer
mechanism.
Operating Precautions
The service life of the receipt printer’s thermal print head cannot be
guaranteed if any paper other than the recommended paper is used. There
will be a noticeable decline in the service life of the thermal element of
print head whenever you use paper that contains Na+, K++, or CI-.
Never print when there is water or any other moisture (such as
condensation) on the surface of the receipt printer’s print head.
Safety Precautions
The thermal print head of the receipt printer and the printer’s motor
become very hot during operation. Never touch these components while
the printer is in operation or immediately following a print operation.
Never touch any moving parts of the printer, such as gears or knobs.
To avoid personal injury, always exercise caution when moving your
hands near the edges of printer components, especially metal
components.
Cleaning the receipt printer mechanism
Periodical cleaning of the head and platen of the receipt printer mechanism
ensures optimum printing performance. Use the following procedure to clean
the head and platen about every 10 roles (3.35”/85mm diameter) of paper.
Make sure that the printer is turned off and unplugged from its wall outlet.
Open the printer cover.
Pull up the receipt printer mechanism and swing it to a raised position until
it stops.
Important!
Parts of the receipt printer mechanism become very hot during printing. Make
sure that the thermal element has cooled completely before cleaning it.
