Using SFP Transceivers
This sections describes how to insert and remove an SFP transceiver from
an SFP slot.
SFP transceivers are hot-insertable and hot-swappable. You can remove
them from and insert them into any SFP port without having to power-off
the switch.
Approved SFP
Transceivers
The following list of approved SFP transceivers is correct at the time of
publication:
3CSFP91 SFP (SX)1000BASE-SX SFP transceiver. Use this transceiver to
connect the switch directly to a multimode fiberoptic cable.
3CSFP92 SFP (LX)1000BASE-LX SFP transceiver. Use this transceiver to
connect the switch directly to a single-mode fiberoptic cable or to
multimode fiber using a conditioned launch cable.
3Com recommends using only 3Com SFPs on the switch. If you insert an
SFP transceiver that is not supported, the switch will not recognize it.
Inserting and using
an SFP Transceiver
To insert and use an SFP transceiver, follow the procedure described
below.
1 Hold the transceiver so that the fiber connector is toward you and the
product label is visible, as shown in
Figure 3. Ensure the wire release lever
is closed (in the upright position).
2 Gently slide the transceiver into the SFP slot until it clicks into place.
CAUTION: SFP transceivers are keyed and can be properly inserted only
one way. If the transceiver does not click when you insert it, remove it,
turn it over, and then re-insert it.
