IP Multicasting
Static multicast forwarding can be configured using the ADD IP INTERFACE
or SET IP INTERFACE commands. Full multicast functionality requires IGMP
and DVMRP or PIM-Sparse Mode.
The advanced feature licence AT-RPFL3Upgrade is required for IGMP, DVMRP and
PIM Sparse Mode.
The switch supports IP multicast routing protocols DVMRP (Distance Vector
Multicast Routing Protocol) and PIM Sparse Mode (Protocol Independent
Multicast – Sparse Mode. Management of group members is performed using
IGMP (Internet Group Management Protocol). IGMP snooping reduces
unnecessary multicast traffic between members of the same VLAN. See the IP
Multicasting chapter in the Rapier Switch Software Reference.
Routing Information Protocol (RIP)
Routing protocols such as RIPv1 and RIPv2 can be enabled on a VLAN. For
example, the command:
ADD IP RIP INTERFACE=vlan11 SEND=RIP2 RECEIVE=BOTH
enables RIPv2 on the admin VLAN. The command:
SHOW IP RIP
displays information about RIP (Figure 19 on page 62).
