CLOSED USER GROUP: (CUG)
A subgroup of users on a network who can connect and communicate with
each other. One or more members of the CUG can have access to the wider
network.
Co-Axial Cable aka co-ax:
This is a cable consisting of an inner core and an outer braid separated by
a layer of insulation.
CODEC:
Short for ENCODER-DECODER. A device, which converts analogue signals
to digital signals that, will be used on a digital network & visa versa.
DELTA TOPOLOGY:
A type of network that has no central site. See

DISTRIBUTED COMPUTING / WORKING:
An arrangement where the processing power of a network is distributed
between all the PC's on a network, rather than being centralised in a
server or main frame.
DISTRIBUTED PROCESSING:
The way that information is shared between the PC's on a network. In a
way, the computers share the work between them.
DUPLEX CIRCUIT:
A
FULL DUPLEX CIRCUIT
can transmit and receive data at the same time,
A HALF DUPLEX
circuit, can only send or receive data in one direction at

ENTERPRISE NETWORK:
A term used for a private network linking sites and individuals within 1
organisation. This can take the form of certain WAN's.
