Print quality is poor.
You may not be using the correct type of paper.
Make sure you load paper that meets the paper requirements for the machine. ( User’s Guide)
The sending fax machine may not be functioning properly.
The sending fax machine usually determines the fax’s quality. Call the sender and have them make sure the
scanning glass of their fax machine is clean.
Error Correction Mode (ECM) may be disabled.
Make sure ECM is on. ( p. 10-6)
Faxes do not print.
The cartridge may not be installed properly.
Make sure the cartridge is installed properly. ( User’s Guide)
The toner in the cartridge may be low.
Replace the cartridge with a new one. ( User’s Guide)
Select KEEP PRINTING in the TONER SUPPLY LOW of the FAX SETTINGS of the Additional Functions.
With this setting, the machine will not store documents in memory even if the toner has run out. ( p. 10-8)
No paper may be loaded in the cassette.
Make sure paper is loaded in the cassette. ( User’s Guide)
INCORRECT PAPER SIZE appears in the LCD.
Load the correct paper size or change the PAPER SIZE setting of the Additional Functions. ( User’s Guide)
Faxed images are blotched or uneven.
The telephone lines may be in poor condition, or you may have a bad connection.
Error Correction Mode (ECM) for sending/receiving should eliminate such problems. However, if the
telephone lines are in poor condition, lower the reception speed ( p. 10-4). Then call the sender to resend the
document.
The sending fax machine may not be functioning properly.

Can not receive a fax using Error Correction Mode (ECM).
The other party’s fax machine may not support ECM.
If the other party’s fax machine does not support ECM, the document is received in normal mode without error
checking.
