To configure the microcode for an HP ESCON PA on a router configured with Cisco IOS
Release 12.1(5)T or later:
Step 1 Enter the privileged EXEC configuration mode using the enable command:
Router> enable
Password:
Router#
Note For complete information on the privileged EXEC configuration mode, refer to the “Using the EXEC
Command Interpreter” section on page 26.
Step 2 If you need to copy a new HP ESCON PA microcode image to your router’s Flash memory, refer to the
“Using Flash Memory” section on page 36, then proceed to Step 3.
Step 3 In privileged EXEC configuration mode, enter global configuration mode and specify that the console
terminal will be the source of the configuration subcommands:
Router# configure terminal
To load the microcode from an individual microcode image that is stored as a file on a Flash memory
card, enter the microcode command, the processor type, the specific memory location of the HP ESCON
PA microcode image, and the exact argument for filename (xcpa28-1 is used in this example):
Router(config)# microcode ecpa slot0:xcpa28-1
Router(config)# microcode reload
Note The microcode reload command is written automatically in the configuration file following the
microcode ecpa command when you modify the system default to load a microcode image.
The no microcode command cancels any existing instructions to load an image from a Flash memory
card and restores the default configuration:
Router(config)# no microcode ecpa slot0:xcpa28-1
Step 4 To save the configuration file, press Ctrl-Z (or type end), then copy the new configuration to NVRAM:
Router# copy running-config startup-config
