This chapter explains how to remove and replace a disk drive. It is assumed that the reader already has a
through understanding of the replacement of the whole disk drive.
Note the following when removing and replacing a disk drive:
• A disk drive must be removed from the host system.
• The section numbers in parentheses refer to the previous section.
• Install a new disk drive by reversing the removal procedure.
For effective maintenance, abide by the following guidelines:
• Removed screws and parts must be placed in a place or container where they will not be lost
or damaged.
• All maintenance work must be recorded.
• Screws must be tightened, but not overtightened.
• To discharge static electricity from the human body, touch the frame (grounding) or wear the
grounding band before touching PCA.
