Troubleshooting Ethernet
Problem:
Switch is not reporting any port statistics even with traffic on my
network.
Solution:
By default, port statistics is disabled on the switch.
/ETHERNET/CONFIG >stat
Problem:
Network is experiencing a large number of packet losses..
Solution:
The following solutions apply:.
Port settings are set properly on the switch.
/ETHERNET/CONFIG >port
Check the Ethernet error statistics on the switch and take corrective
action. (Refer to ‘Common Ethernet errors’ matrix for possible
causes). More than likely, there is a physical layer problem caused by
bad cabling, malfunctioning NIC, etc. In most cases, packets will be
dropped by the switch due to excessive collisions, late collisions,
FCS, alignment errors, oversized and undersized frames.
/ETHERNET/SHOW >count <port#>
Transmit and receive queues can get full when the switch port is
oversubscribed with traffic. Check the ‘discBuffFull’ and
‘discMemFull’ counters and verify if they are incrementing.
/ETHERNET/SHOW >count <port#>
To clear the buffer queues:
/ETHERNET/CONFIG/FLUSH >PORTFLUSH <port#>
/ETHERNET/CONFIG/FLUSH >ALLPORTFLUSH
Note:
Enabling stats may cause a slight degradation to performance
on the switch.
