In the middle of this window is listed the Device status. If Windows 2000 Server has detected the
hardware (in this case NIC), and has loaded a driver for it, this box will report that ‘This device is
working properly’. This only means the driver and the NIC are communicating properly to each
other, not that the NIC and the LAN are communicating properly.
3. Click on the Advanced tab.

Click on Link Speed & Duplex to highlight it. The default value is Auto Detect. To change the
value, click the arrow in the Value: box and choose the fixed value that your Network
Administrator has determined.
