Yourmodemwasthoroughlytestedatthefa ctorybeforeitwasshipped.Ifyouareunabletomakeasuccessful
connection,orifyouexperiencedatalossorgarbledcharactersduringyourconnection,itispossiblethatthe
modemisdefective.However,itismorelikelythatthesource ofyourproblemlieselsew
here.Thefollowing
symptomsaretypicalofproblemsyoumightencounter:
● NoneoftheLEDslightwhenthemodemison.
● Themodemdoesnotrespondtocommands.
● Themodemdialsbutisunabletomakeaconnection.
● Themodemdisconnects whileonline.
● Themodemcannotconnectwhenanswering.
● Dataisbeinglost.
● Therearegarbagecharactersonthemonitor.
● Themodemdoesn’tworkwithCallerID.
● Faxanddatasoftwarecan’trunatthesametime.

Whenyoupluginthemodem,theoperatingsystemdetectsandconfiguresthemodem,andtheTRLEDshould
comeon.
IftheTRLEDdoesnotcomeon,ensurethatthedriverhasbeenin stalled.
ModemDoesNotRespondtoCommands
● Makesureyouareissuingthemodemcommandsfromdata communicationsoftware,eithermanuallyin
terminalmodeorautomaticallybyconfiguringthesoftware.(Youcannotsendcommandstothemodemfrom
theDOSprompt.)
● Makesureyouareinterminalmodeinyourdatacommunicationprogram,thentypeATandpressENTER.If
yougetanOKresponsefromyourmodem,yourconnectionsaregoodandtheproblemlikelyis inthe
connectionsetupinyourcommunicationsoftware.
● TryresettingyourmodembyunpluggingtheUSBcablefromthemodem,andthenpluggingitbackin.
● Tryrebootingthecomputer.
● Themodemmighthaveaproblembeyondthescopeofthisuserguide.IfyouhaveanotherMulti‐Tech
modem,tryswappingmodems.Iftheproblemgoesaway,thefirstmodemispossiblydefective.Call
TechnicalSupportforassistance.
