Configuring t he Modem
The modem must be configured by the user before connecting to the UPS. In
addition, the modem must be programmed with the Call Out telephone numbers in
order to operate the Remote Notification option.
To configure the modem, connect the serial port of a standard PC computer to
the modem through the serial cable. Run a terminal emulation program on the
computer. Test the connection to the modem by typing [A], [T] and [ENTER].
The modem should respond with either “OK” or “0” (zero). If the modem does not
respond, consult the modem manufacturer’s manual to confirm your setup. If the
modem still does not respond, then seek technical assistance from your modem
manufacturer.
After connection, perform “Basic Modem Configuration” and the remaining
sections of this chapter.
Basic Modem Configuration
The basic modem configuration consists of establishing the default operating
parameters for the modem and saving them to the modem memory. This
procedure sets up the modem for all operations. The configuration procedure
is as follows:
1. Connect the modem to the PC through the serial port as described in the modem
manufacturer’s manual.
NOTE: The brackets ([ ]) in the following steps indicate characters that require
keying in prior to pressing [ENTER].
2. Keyin[A],[T],thenpress[ENTER].
3. Confirm that the modem responds with “OK” or “0” (zero).
4. Keyin[A],[T],[&],[F],thenpress[ENTER].
5. Confirm that the modem responds with “OK” or “0” (zero).
6. Keyin[A],[T],[Q],[0](zero),[V],[0](zero),[M],[0](zero),[N],[0](zero),[X],
[0] (zero), [&], [A], [0] (zero), [&], [D], [0] (zero), [&], [K], [0] (zero), [&], [Q], [5].
Verify that the display reads “ATQ0V0M0N0X0&A0&D0&K0&Q5”, then press
[ENTER].
7. Confirm that the modem responds with “OK” or “0” (zero).
8. Keyin[A],[T],[&],[W],[0](zero),thenpress[ENTER].
9. Confirm that the modem responds with “OK” or “0” (zero).
10. Keyin[A],[T],[&],[Y],[0](zero),thenpress[ENTER].
11. Confirm that the modem responds with “OK” or “0” (zero).
