Troubleshooting and Maintenance 53
F. CLEANING THE PRINTHEAD
It may be necessary to clean the print head nozzles if you
notice reduced print quality, or if you suspect a nozzle has
become slightly dried out or clogged. If the printer has been
switched off for several weeks you may have to perform both
the automatic and manual method multiple times.
Tips: 1. The RX900 will automatically do periodic print head
maintenance to keep it ready for printing. However,
this will only occur if you leave it plugged in and
turned on.
2. Purchase a backup print head to maintain uniter-
rupted printing capability. Part Number 053450.
Automatic method:
1. Open the PTStatus monitor.
2. Click Clean printhead on the Cartridge Utilities Tab
(second tab).
3. Follow the onscreen prompts. You will need a sheet of
paper for this process.
Important Note: Always perform multiple Automatic cleans before
attempting to manually clean the print head. Manually clean the
print head as a last resort. The nozzles on a print head are extremely
delicate, manually cleaning can actually cause damage to a print
head.
