Symptom
Cannot connect to the Internet.
Cannot automatically launch
Internet programmes.
Internet takes too long to
download Web sites.
Internet Access
Problem Solution
Internet Service
Provider (ISP) account
is not set up properly.
Verify Internet settings or contact your ISP for
assistance.
Modem is not set up
properly.
Reconnect the modem, verifying the following
connections: telephone line to telephone (for
external phone sets) and telephone line to wall
jack (from computer to wall).
Web browser is not set
up properly.
Verify that the Web browser is installed and set
up to work with your ISP.
You must log in to your
ISP before some
programmes will start.
Log in to your ISP and launch the desired
programme.
Modem is not set up
properly.
Verify that correct modem speed and COM port
are selected:
1. Click Start and point to Settings.
2. Click Control Panel. The Control Panel
window is displayed.
3. Double-click Modems. Windows detects the
modem(s) you have installed.
4. Click the Properties button. An identification
window is displayed.
5. Verify that the correct modem port is set and
the maximum speed of your modem is
selected. Reset these settings if necessary.
6. Click OK to close the identification window.
7. Click Close to close the Modems Properties
Window.
8. Click The Close
P
button in the upper right
corner of the Control Panel window to return
to the Windows desktop.
