Dell D620 Laptop User Manual

The infrared port is located on the left side of the system.
Infrared requires an unobstructed cone of 30 degrees at a
distance of no greater than 4 to 6 feet to function properly.
Devices outside that range or outside the cone either are not
detected or may intermittently drop connection.
The infrared port is disabled by default in the BIOS. To use this
feature, go into the BIOS and enable the infrared port, enabling
it on COM2. The Windows® operating system should automatically detect the port and install it in Device Manager. If the
infrared device to connect to is active and in range, Windows notifies you that it has been detected.
Troubleshooting
Here are some steps to follow if you cannot get infrared working:
1. Be sure infrared is enabled in the BIOS and is installed in Device Manager.
2. Make sure the device is turned on and within range.
3.
If a conflict is occurring on the computer with the infrared in Device Manager, try switching to COM3 or COM4 in the
BIOS and remove and reinstall the infrared device in Device Manager.
4. Infrared is a serial communication device, and therefore transmits slowly when compared to other methods of data
transmission.
5. If you want to check if the infrared port is working, point a standard television or stereo remote control at the port
and start pressing buttons. A message should appear warning about an infrared device in range causing
interference.
