Monochrome monitor
A
monitor that displays in only one color, such as green or amber, as
opposed to a color monitor which can display in several colors.

Parity
A
bit that indicates whether the number of Is in a word is even or
odd. When your computer uses parity checking, it adds an extra bit
to each word. This parity bit is

when the parity is odd and 0 when it
is
even,
or vice-versa, depending on the system. ASCII uses
7
bits for
data and 1 bit for parity. Parity checking is a method of error
detection.
Partition
To divide a hard disk drive into separate sections for use by different
operating systems.
Peripheral
A device (such as a printer or a modem) connected to a computer
that depends on the, computer for its operation.
Port
A physical input/output socket on a computer where you can con-
nect a peripheral.
