The computer does not recognize the modem.
Probable cause Solution
The modem has not been
added as new hardware
Add the modem as new hardware.
The modem is not connected
to a live phone jack
Make sure the line connected to the modem is
working and plugged into the appropriate port
on the modem (line port).
The phone jack is in use If the modem shares the jack with another
device, make sure the other device does not
have the port open (for example, someone is
on the phone, or another modem is in use).
