IBM iSeries Server User Manual

v Distribute some of a licensed program in a compressed state and some of the program in a
decompressed state.
Note: If creating a premastering media, files on CD-ROMs
cannot span volumes. Therefore, you may want to
compress objects so that the resulting saved file fits on
the CD-ROM.
If you distribute licensed programs on a media in compressed form, you need to explicitly compress them
using the Compress Object (CPROBJ) command. You can compress both IBM objects and your own
user-created objects. IBM program objects can be compressed only in the restricted state. The CL
Programming
book has more details about compressing objects. The text includes a
recommendation on how to speed up the compression operation by using multiple jobs.
Note: IBM recommends the following actions to help you reduce
the amount of disk space used on the target site system.
At the same time, these actions ensure that frequently
used objects decompress:
v Compress everything you are sending to the target site
system.
v Use the objects on the central site system in the same
manner they will be used on the target site system. Do
so at least five times for panel groups, menus, printer
files, and display files.
v Create the distribution or premastering media.
