Modem Connection
If the PC and the Passport 4400 unit are not in physical proximity to one another,
you can connect them through a modem, as shown in this diagram:
Figure 11-2. Connecting a Passport 4400 Unit to a Modem
Modem Cable Connections
When using a modem connection, you need to make the following cable
connection between the Passport 4400 unit and the modem to which it is
connected:
• Connect the RJ-45 end of the Passport cable (cable number NTAU17AA)
to the Passport 4400 management port
• Connect the DB-25 end of the Passport 4400 management cable (cable
number NTAU17AA) to a null-modem. (You may need a 9 pin-to-25 pin
RS-232 serial port adapter, or a female-to-female 25-pin adapter, to
make this connection.)
• Connect the null-modem to the modem
Configuring the Modem Attached to the PC
When configuring the modem that is attached to your workstation, be sure to
choose the correct driver for the device. Once the modem is installed, configure
the modem properties with the phone number of the modem that is attached to
the Passport 4400 unit.
Configuring the Modem Attached to the Passport 4400
The modem that is attached to the Passport 4400 unit must be configured for
Quiet operations (no result code, no command echo/local echo).
