Operating Basics
Writing CDs with the DVD-ROM & CD-R/RW drive
Depending on the type of drive installed, you may be able to write CDs. The
DVD-ROM & CD-R/RW drive lets you read DVD-ROMs and CDs as well as
write CD-R/RW. Observe the precautions in this section to ensure the best
performance for writing CDs. For information on loading and unloading
CDs refer to the Using optical media drive section.
Important message (DVD-ROM & CD-R/RW drive)
Before you write to CD-R/CD-RW disc or rewrite to CD-RW disc, read and
follow all setup and operating instructions in this section.
If you fail to do so, the DVD-ROM & CD-R/RW drive may not function
properly, and you may fail to write or rewrite, lose data or incur other
damage.
Before writing or rewriting
Please observe the following points when you write or rewrite the data.
We recommend the following manufacturers of CD-R and CD-RW
media. Media quality can affect write or rewrite success rates.
* For the special media listed below, the following manufacturers are
recommended:
High-Speed CD-RW:
MITSUBISHI Chemical Corporation, Ricoh Co., Ltd.
Ultra-Speed CD-RW:
MITSUBISHI Chemical Corporation
TOSHIBA has confirmed the operation of CD-R and CD-RW media of the
manufacturers above. Operation of other media cannot be guaranteed.
CD-RWs can generally be rewritten about 1,000 times. However, the
actual number of rewrites is affected by the quality of the media and the
way it is used.
Be sure to connect the AC adaptor when you write or rewrite.
Be sure to close all other software programs except the writing
software.
Do not run software such as a screen saver which can put a heavy load
on the CPU.
Operate the computer at full power. Do not use power-saving features.
CD-R discs can be written only once. CD-RW discs can be rewritten many
times.
