3.4 Floppy drive and 2nd hard drive/CD-ROM
installation
If you would like to install a floppy drive or 2nd hard drive, CD-ROM
drive, a riser card which comes with the accessory box has to be
installed first as shown in Figure 3-10.
3.4.1 Floppy drive installation
Up to two floppy drives can be attached to the PPC-S123's I/O
controller. Any combination of 5¼" (360KB and 1.2 MB) and/or 3½"
(720KB, 1.44 MB, and 2.88MB) drives can be attached.
A 34-pin FDD connector is located on the riser card of the PPC-S123.
Connect one end of a 34-pin daisy-chain drive connector cable and
one end of a power signal cable (one each of these is included in the
accessory box to the FDD connector on the riser card and connect
each of the other ends to an FDD.
Note 1: Installation of two FDDs requires a flat ribbon
connector with two plugs and a y-splitter for the
power cable. The flat ribbon cable in the accessory
kit has the required plugs. Users will have to procure
an appropriate y-splitter for the power cable
themselves.
Note 2: We recommend that only FDD be installed on your
PPC-S123. The requisite power connector cable is
included in the PPC-S123 accessory box.
