Serial Ports
Configuration
Under the “Serial” menu heading, click “Configuration” to show the port summary list.
Note that if the “Serial Port” is disabled, the “Serial port configuration” panel will display the
port in a dark gray font. An enabled serial port will be displayed in a white bold font.
PortAuthentication
Authentication is the process of identifying an individual, usually based on a user name and
password. The Console Server supports various authentication options, such as “Local” and
“RADIUS”, to authenticate the users who access the serial port. Refer to page 23.
When the authentication is set to “Local”, the Console Server will use its own user list to
authenticate a user. If configured for RADIUS, the unit will request authentication from the
external authentication servers (i.e., RADIUS). The figure below conceptually illustrates the
user-authentication process when using an external authentication server.
