3.Network Connection
One of the conditions that have to be met before you’re able to manage the Black
Box® LB1351A is to have the device connected to a network (IP).
This connection is achieved through the Fiber-Optic port of the device. Naturally, this
port has to be connected to a network, on which the management station resides.
Please note that all management traffic is in-band, along with normal traffic.
At this point your Black Box® LB1351A is ready to be managed by any Network
Manager running on the network. In order to obtain full management functionality over
the Black Box® LB1351A, you should install the MIB file and define the Black Box®
LB1351A object in the management application (see next section).
Important: if you wish to manage the device (and/or other devices in the network) by
connecting the management station directly to one of the device’s RJ-45 ports, you
MUST disable per port VLAN first (switch # 10 to UP position)!
4.Configuring the Management Station
Before you can begin to fully manage the Black Box® LB1351A from a management
station using SNMP, you need to load and compile the MIB file(s), included with the
management module, onto the management station.
In order to accomplish this you need to perform two steps:
Copy the MIB file, supplied with the module, to the default directory that contains all
other MIB files (varies between management software packages).
In your management application, add the new MIB to the already existing list of MIBs
and recompile them.
After MIB installation you should define a new managed object for the Black Box®
LB1351A according to the SNMP parameters you have previously set. The way to
define this object varies from one management application to another.
You have now completed all the necessary preparations required to fully monitoring
and controlling the Black Box® LB1351A from any management station on the
network.
