3.9 AntennaAlignment
1. Finishthe installatio nasdescribedinChapter3.6and3. 7
2. Ensurefibercablesarestilldisconnected!
3. Connect DC powertotheradio.
4. VerifythatthePowerLEDislit.IfthePowerLEDisnotlit,usevoltmetertoverifycorrect
voltageandpolar ityatradio.Toreversethepowerpolarity, unplugthepowerjackandswapthe
twoconductors.
5. Repeatsteps1through4onothersideofthelink.
6. Connect QUALandRSLtestcabletotheradio.
7. Slightlyrotateeachantennaup/do wnandleft/righttofindthemaximumRSLvoltagereading.To
ensurethattheant ennasarenotalignedonasidelobe,theymustberot atedatleasttendegreeson
each sideofthevisuallyperceivedalignmentcentertoensurethatt hetruemaximumRSLvoltage
isfound;notethatthewidthofthecenterbeamisonly0.6degreesandthefirstsidelobebeamis
only1.5degreesofffromcenter.Settheantennainthepositio nthatresultsinthehighestRSL
voltagereading.SeeSection3.9todeterminetheproperuseof thesuppliedtestcableinorderto
readtheRSLvoltage.
Verifythat theRSLvoltagefallswithintheexpectedrangebased
onthegraphinAppendixB.
8. EnsureallboltsaretightenedsecurelyandtheRSLvo ltageremainsunchangedduringtightening.
Keepinmindthatitisveryimportantthattheazimuthboltsaretightenedbeforeanyadjustment
ontheelevationisdone.Theverynarrowbeamwidthofthisantenna(0.6º)makesitnecessaryto
completelytightentheboltsoftheazimuthadjustmentwhileadjustingtheelevationandvice
versa.
9. Connectthefibercabletooneoftheradiosatat ime.Thefibersshouldalreadybeconnect edto
activenetworkequipment.Iftheunitisnottobeconnectedusingfibercabling,atemporary
loopbackfibermustbeusedtoperformthisoperation.
10. VerifytheFiberLED’so neachradioareilluminatedsolid.
Thefiberintegrityindicationonthenetworkequipmentcould
showupordownindependentofthelinkstatus.Oncetheradio
linkisupandnetworkequipmentconnectedonbothsidesofthe
linkthenetworkequipmentshouldindicatefiberintegrity.
