Management Utility (FMU)
SSID Secure Set Identifier (32-character unique Identifier) — a sequence of characters that
uniquely names a wireless local area network (WLAN). This name allows workstations to
connect to the desired network when multiple independent networks operate in the same
physical area.
Start
Start ( ) opens the Start menu. The Start menu contains a list of the available appli-
cations, applets, and utilities on the device.
Subnet Mask Number used to identify a subnetwork so that an IP address can be shared on a Local
Area Network (LAN).
Symbology A symbology is a protocol for arranging the bars and spaces that make up a particular
kind of bar code. A bar code is made up of numbers, letters, and computer-recognized
characters that can be represented in a combination of bars and spaces. There are cur-
rently over 400 bar code symbologies that serve different uses, industries, or geographic
needs.
Terminal An individual unit attached to an FMU network.
Tracert Trace Route. A utility/command to determine TCP/IP packet routing.
Tree View The list of items that appear in the left pane of the FMU Console.
UI User Interface.
Uniform Resource
Locator (URL)
The address of a resource on the Internet. URL syntax is in the form protocol://host/
localinfo, where protocol specifies the means of returning the object, such as HTTP or
FTP. Host specifies the remote location where the object resides and localinfo is a string,
often a file name, passed to the protocol handler at the remote location. Also called a Uni-
form Resource Identifier.
USB Universal Serial Bus is a hardware standard for connecting PCs with peripheral devices,
including PDTs, PDAs, mobile computers, cameras, printers, mice, scanners, etc.
Web Server The web server can perform several different actions, including generating a web page
containing statistics relating to performance of the mobile computer and creating an inter-
face for interaction with the terminal to configure system behavior.
