Which paper is right for you?
Choosing the right paper comes down to matching the
paper to what you’re printing. Keep these guidelines in
mind when selecting papers:
Finish: Glossy papers are perfect for photographs and
full-color graphics. Matte papers feature a soft, non-glare
finish that’s great for formal portraits and heirloom-quality
black-and-white photos. Matte paper is also good for
brochures. Semigloss and luster papers have a satin finish
that’s excellent for portraits, wedding shots and scenic
color images.
Thickness: Choose thinner papers (4 to 9 mil) for
most everyday printing. Use thicker papers (10 mil+)
for photographs, flyers and brochures.
Opacity: Opacity indicates how opaque a paper is.
The higher the opacity, the less likely an image can be
seen on the other side of the paper. Select a paper with
an opacity of 90% or higher for photos, and especially
for double-sided printing.
ISO Brightness: Brightness refers to how “white” a
paper is. Brighter papers produce sharper images, greater
contrast and more vibrant color. Choose a paper with an
ISO brightness rating of at least 84 for everyday printing.
For photos, go with an ISO brightness rating of at least 90.
