2 Installation steps, overview
This chapter provides an overview of the installation steps for your BX900 S1
system unit. Links take you to sections where you can find more detailed
information about the respective steps:
Ê First read the chapter "Important notes" from page 27, particularly the
section "Safety instructions".
Ê Unpack the system, check the delivery for damage sustained during
transport and make sure it corresponds to the specifications in the delivery
note (see section "Unpacking the system unit" on page 40).
Ê Install the system in the rack (see section "Installing the system unit in the
rack" on page 41 and configuration diagram on the order lists).
Ê Connect the cables (see section "Connecting devices to the system unit" on
page 51). Please also read the section "Instructions for
connecting/disconnecting cables" on page 56.
Ê Connect the system to the mains (see section "Connecting the system unit
to the mains" on page 52).
Ê Familiarize yourself with the control and display elements on the front and
back of the system unit (see chapter 5 starting on page 57).
Ê Install the server blades and storage blades in the slots on the front of the
system unit (see section "Server blades and storage blades" on page 83).
Ê Install the connection blades in the slots on the back of the system unit (see
section "Connection blades" on page 91).
Ê Configure the management blades (see section "Configuring
management blades" on page 70) so that you can carry out all further
administration of the system unit via LAN.
Ê Install the required operating systems and applications on the server blades.
