Resolving paper-feed problems
This section provides solutions to common paper-feed problems.
For information on resolving jams, see “Clearing jams”.
Tray cannot be inserted
z With the tray removed from the printer, turn the printer off and then on again. Reinsert the
tray.
z Make sure that the tray is aligned with the printer opening.
Another paper-feed problem is occurring
Media is not supported for the printer or tray
z Make sure that you are using media that is supported for the printer and for the tray being
used. (See “Printer specifications” and “Understanding specifications for supported
media”.)
Media is not picked up from Tray 1 or Tray 2
z Check that the guides are set to the correct marking in the trays for the size of paper you
are loading. Also make sure the guides are snug, but not tight, against the stack.
z Make sure the media you are using is not curled. Uncurl paper by bending it in the
opposite direction of the curl.
z Make sure that the tray has been pushed completely into the printer.
An envelope is not picked up from the envelope slot
z Make sure that there is not more than one envelope loaded in the envelope slot.
z Make sure that the envelope is not wrinkled or bent. Do not leave an envelope in the
envelope slot overnight because doing so can cause the envelope to bend.
z Make sure that media in Tray 1 is not interfering with the envelope slot and causing more
than one envelope to be fed. Remove any media from Tray 1 and try again.
Media is not coming out correctly
z If the output tray extension is not extended, output pages will fall off the printer. Make sure
that output tray extension is extended.
z Remove excess media from the output tray. The output tray is designed to hold a
maximum of 100 sheets at a time.
z If the auto-duplex unit is not installed or if the auto-duplex unit door is down during a
duplex job, media will exit the rear of the printer. Reinstall the auto-duplex unit or close the
auto-duplex unit door.
Pages are skewing
z Make sure that media loaded in Tray 1 or Tray 2 is aligned to the right and front guides.
