2–2 Setting Up the Printer
Safety Precautions
Your Printronix Label Printer has been designed to give you many years of safe,
reliable service. As with all electrical equipment, there are a few basic
precautions you should take to avoid getting hurt or damaging the printer:
• Read the installation and operating instructions in the documents
provided with your printer carefully. Be sure to save them for future
reference.
• Read and follow all warning instruction labels on the printer itself.
• Do not use your printer near water or spill liquid of any kind into it.
• Your printer has a grounded, 3-prong plug as a safety feature, and it will
fit only into a grounded outlet. If you cannot plug it in, chances are you
have an older, non-grounded outlet. Contact an electrician to have the
outlet replaced. Do not use an adapter to defeat the grounding.
• Avoid damaging the power cord; do not put anything on it or place it
where it will be walked on. If the power cord becomes damaged or
frayed, replace it immediately.
• Do not insert anything into the ventilation slots or the openings on the
printer, as this can result in electrical shock or fire.
• Do not remove the access door of the printer; there are no operator
serviceable parts behind it.
• Do not allow long hair, ties, or jewelry to become entangled in the printer.
• Only qualified, trained service technicians should attempt to repair your
printer if damaged or in need of repair.
• Be aware of components in the printer that are potentially hazardous or
easily damaged.
