2.6.5 STP Settings Configuration
STP is disabled by default. The table below lists the default STP settings when the STP is enabled.
Table 2-4 Default STP Values
Setting Default Value Range Purpose
Bridge priority
32768 0-65535 A parameter used to identify the
root bridge in a spanning tree
(instance of STP). The bridge
with the lowest value has the
highest priority and is the root
Bridge max age
20 6-40 The interval a bridge will wait for
a hello packet from the root
bridge before initiating a topology
change
Bridge hello time
2 1-10 The interval of time between
each configuration BPDU sent by
the root bridge.
Bridge forward delay
15 4-30 The period of time a bridge will
wait (the listen and learn period)
before beginning to forward data
packets.
Ethernet port (ETH A)
path cost
100 0-65535 The cost of using the port to
reach the root bridge. When
selecting among multiple links to
the root bridge, STP chooses the
link with the lowest path cost and
blocks the other paths. Each port
type has its own default STP path
cost.
Ethernet port (ETH A)
priority
128 0-255 The preference that STP gives to
this port relative to the other ports
for forwarding traffic out of the
spanning tree.
A higher numerical value means
a lower priority; thus, the highest
priority is 8.
Ethernet port (ETH B)
path cost
100 0-65535 The cost of using the port to
reach the root bridge. When
selecting among multiple links to
the root bridge, STP chooses the
link with the lowest path cost and
blocks the other paths. Each port
type has its own default STP path
cost.
Ethernet port (ETH B)
priority
128 0-255 The preference that STP gives to
this port relative to the other ports
for forwarding traffic out of the
