SETTING NETWORK FUNCTIONS
Setting the TCP/IP Protocol
You can set the TCP/IP protocol that is commonly used for most of network system. It is recom-
mended to configure the TCP/IP protocol because TopAccess, the device management web-
based utility, and e-Filing web-based utility, that allows you to manage files in the e-Filing, will be
available with the TCP/IP protocol. Also other network features of this equipment use the TCP/
IP protocol.
In the TCP/IP menu, you can select the addressing mode, assign the IP address, subnet mask,
and default gateway (if manually assigned).
How the TCP/IP protocol is configured is depending on the network configuration of your net-
work.
y When you assign the TCP/IP using the Auto-IP addressing or DHCP server:
If you do not know how the TCP/IP settings should be assigned, you can select Dynamic
addressing mode. When the Dynamic addressing mode is selected, this equipment will
obtain the IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, primary WINS server address, second-
ary WINS server address, POP3 server address, and SMTP server address from the DHCP
server if the network supports the DHCP. If the network does not support the DHCP, this
equipment will assign the appropriate IP address using the Auto-IP addressing. However,
the Auto-IP addressing may not work properly when the router is placed in the network.

y When you assign the TCP/IP using the DHCP server only:
If your local area network has been configured with the DHCP server and you do not want to
enable the Auto-IP addressing, you can select No Auto-IP addressing mode. When the No
Auto-IP addressing mode is selected, the IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, primary
WINS server address, secondary WINS server address, POP3 server address, and SMTP
server address will be automatically obtained from the DHCP server, and the Auto-IP
addressing will be disabled. To enable the DHCP addressing only, please configure the
TCP/IP settings as described in following procedure.

y When you connect to local area network where the static IP addresses are used:
If your local area network has been configured with the static IP address, you must assign
the specific IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway as required.
