54 Chapter 4 Problem, Meet Solution
If your MacBook Pro freezes during startup, or you see a ashing question mark,
or the screen is dark and the sleep indicator light is glowing steadily (not in sleep)

softwareontheharddiskoranydisksattachedtothecomputer.
 Waitafewseconds.Ifthecomputerdoesn’tsoonstartup,shutitdownbypressing
andholdingthepower(®)buttonforabout8to10seconds.Disconnectallexternal
peripheralsandtryrestartingbypressingthepower(®)buttonwhileholdingdown
theOptionkey.Whenyourcomputerstartsup,clicktheharddiskicon,andthen
clicktherightarrow.Afterthecomputerstartsup,openSystemPreferencesandclick
StartupDisk.SelectalocalMacOSXSystemfolder.
Iftheproblemoccursfrequently,youmightneedtoreinstallyourcomputer’ssystem

If your MacBook Pro doesn’t turn on or start up
Trythefollowingsuggestionsinorderuntilyourcomputerturnson:
 Makesurethepoweradapterispluggedintothecomputerandintoafunctioning
poweroutlet.Besuretousethe85WMagSafePowerAdapterthatcamewithyour
MacBookPro.Ifthepoweradapterstopschargingandyoudon’tseetheindicator
lightontheMagSafeconnectorturnonwhenyoupluginthepowercord,try
unpluggingandrepluggingthepowercordtoreseatit,ortryanotherpoweroutlet.
 Checkwhetherthebatteryneedstoberecharged.Pressthesmallbuttonontheleft
sideofyourcomputer.Youshouldseeonetoeightlightsindicatingthebattery’s
levelofcharge.Ifasingleindicatorlightison,connectyourpoweradapterto
