Glossary
bit Short for binary digit. The smallest unit of data in computer processing. A
bit can represent two values, on and off, or 1 and 0.
bit/pixel The unit that indicates the number of bits allocated for a pixel. The larger
the value, the more detail a pixel can represent.
color correction A method of adjusting the color image data for a particular type of device
so that the reproduction results come close to the original colors.
default A set of values used when no other selections have been made.
dither A process in which software or an output device simulates continuous
tones with groups of dots.
dpi Dots per inch. A unit of measurement for resolution. The higher the value,
the higher the resolution.
Halftone A method of using dot patterns to represent an image.
marquee A sizeable and moveable frame on a preview image that identifies the
part of it selected for scanning.
monochrome Black and white images, or images represented only by the intensity of
luminosity.
