ConfiguringAlternateRouting
AlternateroutingprovidesanalternatepathforcallsiftheprimaryIPnetworkcannotcarrythetraffic.
Sometimesduringfailure,calltrafficistemporarilydivertedintothePSTN.However,youalsousealternate
routingtodiverttraffictoaredundant(backup)unitincaseoneVOIPunitfails.
Alternateroutingfacilitates
PSTNFailoverprotection.ItallowsyoutorerouteVOIPcallsautomaticallyoverthe
PSTNiftheVOIPsystemfails.YoucanprogramtheMultiVOIPtorespondtoexcessivedelaysinthetransmission
ofvoicepackets,whichtheMultiVOIPinterpretsasafailureoftheIPnetwork.Upondetectingan
excessive
delayintransmissionofvoicepackets(overlyhigh“latency”inthenetwork)theMultiVOIPdivertsthecallto
anotherIPaddress,whichitselfisconnectedtothePSTN(forexample,viaanFXOportontheselfsame
MultiVOIPisconnectedtothePSTN).

1. ClickAdvanced.TheAlternateRoutingwindowopens.
2. SpecifytheIPaddressofthealternaterouteforeachdestinationpatternentryintheOutboundPhonebook.
