Spanning Tree
Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) ensures that only one path at a time is active between any two
network nodes. There are maybe more than two physical path between any two nodes for
redundant paths; STP ensures only one physical path is active and the others are blocked. STP will
prevent an inadvertent loop in a network, which can disable your network due to a “Broadcast
storm”, the result of a broadcast message traveling through the loop again and again.
Forward Time
Use the forward-time to set the STP forward interval.
Syntax
FSM726(config)# spanning-tree forward-time <interval>
Where
<interval> = the STP forward interval. This number ranges from 4 – 30 seconds.
Hello Time
Use the hello-time command to set the STP hello interval.
Syntax
FSM726(config)# spanning-tree hello-time <interval>
Where
<interval> = the STP hello interval. This number ranges from 1 – 10 seconds.
Max-Age
Use the max-age command to set the STP maximum age interval.
Syntax
FSM726(config)# spanning-tree max-age <interval>
Where
<interval> = the STP max age interval. This number ranges from 6 – 40 seconds.
