MAINTENANCE
Essentially,yourprinterisarobustpieceofequipment,butshouldbetreated
witha modicumof camin orderto avoidmalfimctions.For example:
Keepyourprinterin a ’’comfortable”environment.Roughlyspeaking,if
youamcomfortable,thentheenvironmentissuitableforyourprinter,too
,(seeChapter1).
s Do notsubjectthe printerto physicalshocksor excessivevibration.
c Avoidover-dustyenvironments.Dustis theenemyof allprecisionme-
chanicaldevices.If youhaveto usetheprinterin suchan situation,you
might like to considerthe use of an acoustic hood, whose primary
functionistoreducetheprinter’snoise,butcanalsoactasabarneragainst
dus~Consultyoursupplierfordetailsof a suitablemodel.
s To cleanthe exteriorof theprinter,use a barelydampcloth(useeither
waterwithalittledetergentoralittlealcohol),butdonotallowanyliquid
to fallinsidetheprinter.
Theinteriorofthepnntermay becleanedwithasmallvacuum cleaneror
a compressed-airaerosol(soldfor thispurpose).Whenperformingthis
operation,be sure not to bend or damage any cable connectionsor
electroniccomponents.
ADJUSTINGTHE PRINTINGGAP
The
distance between the print head and the platen can be adjusted to
accommodate different paper thicknesses.To make this adjustment, remove
the top cover. The adjustment lever is located near the left end of the paper
bail. Fulling the adjustment lever towards you widens the gap; pushing it
away from you narrows the gap.
Therearefourpositions;youcanfeeltheleverclickingintoeachposition.
Thefirstposition(narrowestgap)istheonemostcommonlyusedforsingle
sheetsofpaper.Trydifferentpositionsuntilyougetthebestprintingnxmlts.
