About this book
Perceive is a web-based performance tool that provides fast, valuable information on
a system’s performance. When installed as part of your Performance Assurance
software, Perceive lets users efficiently collaborate on potential system performance
issues, such as resource bottlenecks and capacity limits. It provides you with a tool
that any person on your team can learn and adapt to quickly and easily.
Perceive simplifies the process of getting value out of your system by reducing the
time it takes to install agents and view collected data on those agents. Use it as a
central solution that helps users focus on the quality and contents of performance
views, instead of having to delve into the details of their implementation. Perceive is
easy to deploy, and it makes end-to-end data collection and reporting more efficient
and reliable.
For an extensive list of Perceive’s features, including updated installation and
operation notes, refer to the Perceive Release Notes.
This book contains detailed information about Perceive.
There are three types of Perceive users:
■ Consumers. These are the primary Perceive users, responsible for determining the
status of a group of computers quickly. Consumers typically include business
managers, application owners, and end users.
Their roles are described in Chapter 2 on page 63 of this book.
■ Analysts. These are typically the primary users of performance products who must
configure and manipulate Perceive to deliver high quality data and performance
information to their customers, the consumers.
Their roles are described in Chapter 3 on page 95 of this book.
■ Administrators. These are the individuals responsible for installing and deploying
Perceive, as well as configuring the data sources and customizing the display.
Their roles are described in Chapter 4 on page 117 of this book.
It is not unusual for a user to perform more than one role using Perceive.
