To install the Avocent Emerge ECMS2000U Extender on a network:
1. Connect the Computer Access Node to the remote computer as described previously in Point-
to-point installation on page 6. Connect one end of the UTP cable to the Computer Access
Node’s RJ-45 connector. Connect the other end of the UTP cable to the Ethernet network.
2. Connect the User Access Node to the peripherals as described above in Point-to-point
installation on page 6. Use a length of UTP cable to connect the User Access Node to the
Ethernet network via the RJ-45 connector on the rear of the User Access Node.
3. Power up the User Access Node. A connection will be automatically established with the
remote computer.
4. Use the serial menu to re-configure the network settings for the Computer Access Node. For
more information on how to do this see,
Configuring Network Settings on page 16.
NOTE: If the User Access Node and Computer Access Node are to be located on different subnets, configure
their network settings before you connect to the network.
NOTE: If there are already Computer Access Node/User Access Node pairs operating on the subnet, configure
network settings of new Computer Access Node/User Access Node pairs before connecting them to the network.
5. Use the serial menu to re-configure the network settings for the User Access Node. For more
information on how to do this see,
Configuring Network Settings on page 16.
6. Repeat this procedure for each Computer Access Node and User Access Node pair you wish to
install on the network.
