Maintenance and Service Guide 8-23
The COMPAQ Enhanced Color Graphics Board
has two banks of configuration switches (SW1
and SW2) as well as two jumpers (P1 and JP3)
that must be positioned to allow the board to
work properly with your computer system
(Figure 8-18). The monitor you use with the
COMPAQ Enhanced Color Graphics Board deter-
mines the correct setting for one of the jumpers
and one bank of configuration switches.
Another configuration switch bank setting
determines whether the COMPAQ Enhanced
Color Graphics Board is the only or primary
video display controller board, or the secondary
video display controller board in your computer.
This configuration switch bank also determines
the power-on mode and character format of the
COMPAQ Enhanced Color Graphics Board when
the computer is turned on or rebooted.
The following sections provide jumper and con-
figuration switch locations and instructions on
how to set them.
CAUTION
Use care when setting the configuration
switches on the COMPAQ Enhanced Color
Graphics Board. Many of the components on
the board are sensitive to static electricity.
Be sure that you are discharged of static
electricity by briefly touching a metal object,
such as the frame of the computer.
Also, the correct setting of the configura-
tion switches is vital to the operation of the
COMPAQ Enhanced Color Graphics Board.
Be sure that you set them correctly for your
computer system before installing the board.
