For Windows users: If no LaCie SAFE drive icon appears on your computer, then right-click on the My Computer folder
icon and then click Manage. From the Computer Management window, select Disk Management (located below the Storage
group). Windows will list the SAFE drive attached and the virtual partition named “LaCie SAFE drive”should appear. If it does
not appear, please refer to the notes below.
For Mac users: If no LaCie SAFE drive icon appears on your desktop, then use the Apple Disk Utility application. To access it,
choose Go from the Menu Bar and click on Applications. Open the Utilities folder, and then double-click the Disk Utility icon.
The Disk Utility window will open. On the left side of the window, you'll see a list of the available drives. You should see a
volume that is labeled “LaCie SAFE drive”. If you do not see this, please refer to the notes below.
Tech Note:
If after a few seconds, your drive doesn’t mount on your computer but the top LED is red and the
drive is making a clicking noise, your USB port may not be providing enough power to the drive. Please refer to
section 4.2. Connecting the USB Power Sharing Cable.
5.1. Mac Installation
To be able to configure your drive on a Mac you need to perform a couple of simple additional steps.
1. When you first open the LaCie SAFE drive icon, a dialog appears informing you that you need to install some system
components. Click OK to continue.
2. The Mac OS X Installation program opens. Click Continue to install the components.
